Dr. Ronald Warnick Elected Secretary-Treasurer of AANS/CNS Section on Tumors

CINCINNATI - Ronald Warnick, M.D., a neurosurgeon with the Mayfield Clinic & Spine Institute and a resident of Loveland, this month assumes the elected position of Secretary-Treasurer of the Section on Tumors of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) and Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS). Dr. Warnick will serve in that position for two years. He will become Chairman of the AANS/CNS Section on Tumors in 2005.

The Section on Tumors performs a wide range of activities relating to education, research and the coordination of neuro-oncology programs for the AANS and CNS. The Section on Tumors includes 1,630 neurosurgeons, neuro-oncologists and other health-care professionals who specialize in the care of patients with brain tumors.

Dr. Warnick, 47, has practiced neurosurgery with the Mayfield Clinic since 1991 and has been affiliated with The Neuroscience Institute at The University Hospital since 1998. He is Director of Surgical Neuro-Oncology and a Professor of Neurosurgery and Radiation Oncology at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.

Dr. Warnick graduated from the Lakeside School in Seattle in 1974 and from Amherst College in 1978. He received his M.D. with honors from the University of Rochester in 1982. He did his internship in general surgery (1982-1983) and his residency in neurosurgery (1983-1989) at New York University, and he completed his training with a fellowship in neuro-oncology at the University of California, San Francisco, in 1989-1991.

Dr. Warnick received two important awards in 2000 for his work in gene therapy of brain tumors: the National Brain Tumor Foundation Award for Excellence in Clinical Research and the AANS/CNS Section on Tumors Mahaley Clinical Research Award.
