Dr. Ronald Warnick to receive Mahaley Research Award for Brain Tumor Research

SAN ANTONIO, TX–On Tuesday, September 26, Ronald Warnick, MD, Director of Surgical Neuro-Oncology for the Mayfield Clinic in Cincinnati, will receive the Steven Mahaley Research Award at the Congress of Neurological Surgeons international meeting in San Antonio.

The Mahaley Research Award is given at the annual meeting of both the Congress of Neurological Surgeons and the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, to an established investigator in neuro-oncology who presents the best paper in the brain tumor field. Dr. Warnick is presenting: Phase III Multicenter Trial of GLI 328 HSV-Tk Gene Therapy in Newly Diagnosed Glioblastoma Multiforme.

The award is named for Dr. Steven Mahaley, a well-known surgical neuro-oncologist at Duke University who passed away in 1993.

Dr. Warnick is an internationally recognized neurosurgeon who has pioneered advancements in surgical and biological treatments for patients with brain tumors, including image-guided neurosurgery, intraoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and gene therapy.

In addition to his role at Mayfield, Dr. Warnick serves as Associate Professor of Neurosurgery, and Director of the Division of Neuro-Oncology, for the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine Department of Neurosurgery. He is also Associate Professor of Radiation Oncology, Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at the College of Medicine, and a neurosurgeon with The Neuroscience Institute at The University Hospital.

The Congress of Neurological Surgeons was founded in 1951 to promote the advancement of neurosurgery through education, research and scientific knowledge. Currently, membership includes 4,500 neurosurgeons from throughout the world.
