Mayfield Clinic establishes Educational Partnership
With South Avondale Elementary School
CINCINNATI – The Mayfield Clinic today proudly announced a new community partnership with South Avondale Elementary School, an academic institution within Cincinnati Public Schools.
The partnership was established through the Partners in Education program of the Cincinnati Youth Collaborative, which seeks to reduce dropout rates in the Cincinnati Public Schools while helping every youth in Cincinnati realize his or her potential.
With a nod to the school’s "Tiger" mascot, Mayfield named its new partnership Tiger PAWS (Partners at Work & School). South Avondale School has 363 students in grades pre-K through 8. Mayfield will assist with tutoring, mentoring, aptitude test preparation, fund-raising, grounds beautification, and more.
“The Mayfield Clinic is proud to launch this effort for the benefit of schoolchildren in our community,” said Ronald Warnick, MD, Chairman of the Mayfield Clinic. “We hope that through this partnership we will be able to provide academic assistance and new opportunities to the children at South Avondale School.”
“This is a great opportunity to build future lives,” said South Avondale Principal Sam Yates. “Partnering with Mayfield is another way to enhance what students know and to help them become successful. We’re greatly appreciative of Mayfield’s decision to step up and become partners with us.”
The partnership is the newest facet of the Mayfield Clinic’s longtime commitment to community activities. The Clinic supports the United Way and Fine Arts Fund as well as numerous non-profit organizations, agencies and fund-raisers, including: FACE (For AIDS Children Everywhere), Bike MS, Walk to D’Feet ALS, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, Sunflower Revolution (Parkinson’s disease research and wellness), InReturn, and the Think First National Injury Prevention Foundation.
The Mayfield Clinic includes 20 neurosurgeons and treats 20,000 patients from 35 states and a dozen countries in a typical year. Mayfield's neurosurgeons are active participants in important clinical trials and have pioneered surgical procedures and instrumentation that have revolutionized the medical art of neurosurgery for brain tumors and neurovascular diseases and disorders.
