The Complex Spine Surgery Fellowship at the University of Cincinnati Department of Neurosurgery is a one year appointment offered annually to a candidate who has completed an ACGME-accredited neurosurgery residency program. The fellowship focuses on the development of clinical skills needed to diagnose and treat a broad range of spinal disorders. Extensive mentoring in degenerative spinal disorders, complex traumatic fractures, tumors, infection, and adult spinal deformity as well as comprehensive exposure to all forms of spinal instrumentation and minimally invasive surgical techniques is provided. A strong emphasis is also placed on the academic development of the fellow. Participation in clinical, biomechanical, and/or basic science research is expected. An additional 12-month research fellowship is available to complete on-going clinical or laboratory investigations. At the completion of the fellowship, each candidate will be prepared for a career in academic neurological spine surgery.
Evaluation Process
The Fellow will be evaluated semiannually by the Director of the Spine Fellowship program and members of the neurosurgical faculty team participating in the care of patients on the spine service.
